Gathering in Boulder 2010

o
Information for College Students

We have a dream. At the 2010 Gathering in Boulder, we welcome current college students, either majoring in Church Music, Music, or other fields who are interested in ministry, to join us in Boulder. This includes those who are presently serving in Lutheran Campus Ministry and/or who have been faithfully serving in their home parish. The invitation is open to come join the Gathering!

To help achieve this goal, we have kept the registration fee reasonably low. Also we have a second money saving incentive: when college students agree to serve as “mentors” for the Children’s Choir at the Pre-Gathering, we are able to offer them 4 free nights of “Bed & Breakfast” in Boulder host homes! With those incentives, our hope is that the event becomes quite affordable for students. Maybe the home congregations, individuals, synods, etc. will also be able to assist with a small stipend towards registration and travel. (When you are asking for a stipend, be sure to mention what ALCM is already doing to welcome student participation.)

At the Pre-Gathering many seasoned church music ministry leaders will be guiding the college students. You could say “two-fold mentoring” is taking place. The leaders mentoring college students include: Carole Lea Arenson, Dr. Joy Berg, Jerry Gunderson, Dr. Rev. Larry Kochendorfer, Dr. Greg Peterson, Helen Thoenes, and Erik Whitehill.

We offer one more opportunity for college students beyond the “mentoring agreement”, and that is to share their talent, whether vocal or instrumental, in some way during the event. This is definitely “optional”, but certainly a way to become more deeply involved in the Gathering.

The 3 Step Process:

  1. Register (download a registration form – see registration)
  2. After receiving your Registration Confirmation Letter, a member of our Gathering Committee will contact you with the free
“Bed & Breakfast” offer and also ask if you wish to pursue the option of sharing your musical talent during the event.
  3. Arrive in Boulder by noon on July 11th for the Pre-Gathering.
